I’m pleased to announce that on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 the good folks from Hastings City Bank Trust and Investment Group are holding a free event for the community to help educate folks on the complexities of long term care and Medicaid planning. But the best part is that “yours truly” will be the guest speaker for the evening’s event.

As you may know, I enjoy doing sessions like this to help educate people on the realities of these types of topics. As we all get older, these are issues that we’ll inevitably face one way or another, whether it’s us, or a loved one, faced with the issues. For instance, did you know that it costs on average $7,000 for just one month’s stay in a nursing home? With costs like that, you cannot afford to put your hard-earned assets at risk.

There are several questions I answer when it comes to long term care and Medicaid planning, which will all be covered during my session Wednesday night, so mark your calendars. The event starts at 6:30 pm and will last about an hour. When we’re done, my hope is you’ll come away with a better understanding of the following key items:

  • How Medicaid pays for a nursing home
  • The four major Medicaid eligibility factors
  • What assets and income one may keep and still receive Medicaid
  • Special rules for spouses
  • The “Estate Recovery” law
  • Planning techniques for estate preservation

But keep in mind you don’t need to wait until May 4th if you’ve got questions right now. Just give me a call at (269) 945-3495 for a no-cost or obligation chat and I’ll be happy to see how I can help. Or, you can learn more about my upcoming session and I’ll see you in May!
